World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its base stats improve in value. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory.
The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a few theories on how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the best." The stat modifications of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by adding a name.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, it must be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run than in later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each item level. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items are available in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. Cases.gg can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an overall success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
